Step 1 – Type

A man-made product, Floating / Engineered Timber Floors are very strong, pre-coated natural timber laminated boards which can be laid on virtually any base. They are extremely stable, come in a range of attractive timber colours and can be laid by the average handy person.

Floating Timber Floors can be laid over existing timber platform floors, concrete or even linoleum or thin wall to wall carpet. The simplest explanation for a floating floor is to think of it as a large carpet made of wood. Laminate floating overlay floors are not normally fastened or glued to the sub-floor, hence the term "floating floor." This allows the entire floor to expand and contract as one. In a traditional timber floor this movement creates cracks and gaps between the boards.
