Process
The first step in the process of installing a timber floor is to choose the type of flooring. You have a choice of five ... your decision should take into account not only how you want your finished space to look, but also your budget, time considerations and whether you're flooring needs to be structural or purely aesthetic.
Always remember that a timber floor is a natural product, so chances are it will look different from all the samples that you've seen ... no matter how big a surface area you've looked at. So if you're looking for an exact consistency in colour, grain or features you're better looking at a man-made product like; laminate flooring, tiles or carpet.
We suggest that after narrowing down your list of prospective timbers make sure you view and compare a few different samples so you can get a feel for the natural variations. Remember too, that you get what you pay for ... this is especially true with timber flooring as the quality of manufacture, installation, sanding and finishing will be visible in your floor forever. So choose wisely – ask for referrals and insist on quality.
